The
area of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, from City Hall to the Philadelphia
Museum of Art bisects the area of the city known as Logan Square.
It is home to many of the city's museums, such as the Franklin Institute,
Museum of Natural History and the Rodin Museum. It is where you
can find the main branch of the Philadelphia Library. The parkway
is also lined with sculpture, fountains, and flags from around the
world.
Westminster Arch Apartments is located in the South Logan Square area. Generally speaking this is also referred to as Center City.
Logan Circle was named for William Penn's agent and mayor of Philadelphia, James Logan, the circle is the site of the Swann Memorial Fountain, a breathtaking piece of outdoor sculpture by Alexander Calder, cast in 1924. The fountain's three native American figures represent Philadelphia's three main waterways - the Delaware River, the Schuylkill River and Wissahickon Creek. The swans are a play on the name of Dr. Wilson Cary Swann, president of the Philadelphia Fountain Society. The fountain has become a wading pool for some of the city's children on particularly steamy Philadelphia days.
